The only way to arrest the influence that mammon exerts upon our soul through the love of money is by being introduced to a contrary influence or knowledge called the Faith of the Son. His freedom lies in a definition of life that is firstly found in Christ and then in the Father, and his reward for finding and keeping these twin expressions of life is a reward called God.
The love of money is a love that can thrive when we mind high things or can’t be content with food and raiment (1Tim. 6:8-10, 17).
When money isn’t regulated by a nature, wisdom or commandment that is in the Holy Ghost, in the Son or in the Father, it will become a filthy lucre that serves purposes that are either filthy or earthly, sensual or devilish.
The love of money has been an age-long cancer of the soul, long before cancer of the body was ever diagnosed. It has left the soul of many believers unhealthy and covetous, and it remains an unarmed robber that has consistently stolen the birthright of many believers, robbing them of their inheritance in Christ and in the Father (1Tim 6:9-10, Lk. 12:15, Eph. 5:5).
Money drives the kingdoms of this world; it answers to everything there, and the actual season when the love of it would be overcome is after a believer has been empowered through the feast of charity (Christ) to seek first the everlasting Kingdom of God and its righteousness. Only then would money become a servant and cease to be a master that gratifies our carnal nature.
The Faith in Christ provides our first escape from it, but it takes the Love of God to perfect our immunity from it (2Pet. 1:4, Jude vs. 21, 1Jn. 4:17-18). His freedom lies in the definition of life that is firstly found in Christ and then in the Father, and his reward for finding and keeping these twin expressions of life, is a reward called God (Eph. 4:18-20, Col. 2:2).
Those who break free from trusting in money are those who break into the dawning of God’s day by trusting in the living God; the everlasting Father. Through spiritual and divine understanding of the faith in Christ and the love that is in the Son of God, believers are meant to hasten into an everlasting and eternal economy in God; a new civilization or world to come order that will replace everything in man and amongst nations that can be traced to Babylon.
Nothing makes or fashions hustlers out of a generation of men, like money. Nothing keeps believers – long in carnality – like money and what money can do (Lk. 18:18-25).
The world says we need more money, but the gospel says we need to use our time differently, so we can fetch (more) grace; live supernaturally, engage the forces of heaven in all our affairs and thereby enjoy more of heaven on earth than many believers who remained carnal while making it to heaven. Time is a gift for capturing the divine life; even the life of Jesus whom money diligently served and still serves.
One good clue that money has become a servant to us, or ceased to be a master, is if our eyes and hearts have found rest in the living words of the Father, which alone can selflessly govern our use of money. There is nothing wrong in owning and enjoying things that money can provide or things that God still freely gives.
Nothing has robbed generations of believers from accessing the riches of Christ or the true riches of the Father—like the love of money or of what money can do. Nothing reinforces our confidence in the flesh like the world that it creates (Lk. 16:11/18:25; 1 Jn. 2:15-17; Jer. 17:5-6).
Seasons where nothing seems to be working outwardly are when the Lord wants to expose our fears and make us secured in Christ. Only then can we walk with the light of the fear of the Lord and seek to be eternally secured with God or with the fullness of His life (Deu. 8:2, Isa. 11:2-3, Eph. 3:17-20).
